Local E-Resources

"X" Proxy

When cataloging e-resources that are locally licensed (i.e., not open access), please add the following to the MARC record:

856$xproxy

An 856 subfield "x" that is set to "proxy" tells Primo two things:

  1. This record belongs to the owning institution. As such, this e-resource will not show up in others' OneSearch views, preventing non-local users from attempting to access an e-resource that is not available to them.
  2. This record requires a proxy prefix. Primo will automatically add the owning institution's EZproxy prefix to the URL in 856$u.

For records that are available via the PCI, please do not add 856$xproxy! Instead, add a status code of "PCI." Read on for more information.

"PCI" Status

To avoid duplication between your Aleph holdings and the collections available via the Primo Central Index, please add the following to the MARC record of your e-resources that are also available via the PCI (e.g., ebrary, JSTOR, etc.):

STA	PCI

A status of "PCI" lets Aleph know not to publish this record to Primo. This, in turn, ensures that this record will not be picked up in the daily pipes that run on Primo, harvesting additions/deletions/modifications to MARC records from Aleph.

Again, a status of "PCI" needs to be added to MARC records that duplicate the collections available via the Primo Central Index.
