Policy:

Both national cataloging policy and Alma’s infrastructure require the existence of separate bibliographic records for each format (i.e., manifestation) of a title. This allows for more accurate reporting, efficient batch loads, and clearer search results.

  • CUNY Libraries must use separate bibliographic records to describe each format (i.e., manifestation) of a title
  • There should only be one record per title per manifestation in the Network Zone (NZ).
  • Exceptions are allowed for combined format records that migrated from Aleph, such as where microfilm holdings are attached to print records. Libraries are not required to clean up these records and their inventory, but the records must be placed in the Institution Zone (IZ).
